For the Sauce
- 1 pound Ground Beef can be substituted with ground turkey
- 1 can (14.5 ounces) Crushed Tomatoes diced tomatoes can be used for a different texture
- 0.5 cup Heavy Cream half-and-half can lighten it
- 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning fresh herbs can be used
- 2 cloves Garlic minced garlic works in a pinch
- 1 medium Onion shallots can be used
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
For the Pasta
- 1 cup Orzo Pasta ditalini or penne can be used
For Cooking
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil can substitute with vegetable oil
For Garnish
- Fresh Basil parsley can replace it
- Grated Parmesan Cheese nutritional yeast can be a dairy-free option
How to Make
In a large skillet, warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add 1 diced onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until it becomes translucent.
Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add 1 pound of ground beef to the skillet. Cook it for 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart until it’s browned throughout. Season with salt, pepper, and 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning.
Mix in 1 can (14.5 ounces) of crushed tomatoes. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes.
Lower the heat and slowly stir in ½ cup of heavy cream, simmering for another 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Meanwhile, boil salted water in a separate pot and cook 1 cup of orzo according to the package instructions (8-10 minutes). Drain the orzo and add it to the skillet.
Toss everything together in the skillet until the orzo is fully coated with the creamy sauce.
Plate the dish hot, garnished with fresh basil and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.
