Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour spooned and leveled
  • ¾ cup cane sugar plus more for sprinkling
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted, plus more for the baking dish
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fruit

  • 2 cups blackberries heaping

  • vanilla ice cream for serving

Baking Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease an 8x8-inch or similar baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla and whisk until well combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the blackberries evenly on top, then sprinkle with sugar all over.
  • Bake for 50 to 65 minutes, or until the edges are deeply golden brown and the center is puffed and lightly set. Allow to cool slightly before serving warm with vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Both fresh and frozen blackberries can be used for this recipe.
